Marbles in the Wok is inspired by the sound of marbles rolling inside of a wok. By manipulating the sounds of marbles through sampling, stretching, transposition, speed change, equalization, and reverberation, the music achieves a colorful and playful atmosphere. The relationship between the piano and the electronics is sometimes competitive and sometimes collaborative. The sound of piano is sometimes in the foreground and sometimes buried in the rich ambient electronic sonority, as if the pianist is placed inside of a playground, surrounded by various toys and glowing marbles.
